This page explains how to cancel a Crossword Club subscription and how to request a refund. The right path depends on where you made the purchase, because Apple, Google, and our own web checkout each handle billing and refunds through their own systems.

Crossword Club is free to download until 29 May 2026 as a limited-time promotion. After that the app returns to its normal price ($1.99 USD or local equivalent). Refunds for the paid app price itself are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) — see Section 2 and Section 3 respectively. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions today; the rest of this policy describes how we will handle refunds for those once they launch.

1. Where did you purchase?

If you are not sure which one applies, check the receipt email — Apple's comes from no_reply@email.apple.com, Google's from googleplay-noreply@google.com, and ours from billing@wordclub.ai.

2. Apple App Store purchases

Apple handles all refunds for purchases made through the iOS App Store. We have no ability to issue, approve, or reject these refunds — only Apple does.

Request a refund

  1. Open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID used for the purchase.
  2. Find the Crossword Club charge.
  3. Tap Report a Problem → choose a reason → submit.

Apple typically replies within 24–48 hours. Approval is at Apple's discretion under their Media Services Terms. EU and UK customers also have statutory rights (see Section 6).

Cancel an auto-renewing subscription

Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not refund the current billing period; you keep access until the period you already paid for ends.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions.
  2. Tap Crossword ClubCancel Subscription.

3. Google Play purchases

Google handles all refunds for purchases made through Google Play. Google has its own published policy — typically refunds requested within 48 hours of purchase are automatic; older requests are reviewed.

Request a refund

  1. Open play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory and sign in.
  2. Find the Crossword Club order → Request a refund.
  3. If the automatic flow does not apply (older than 48 hours), choose Report a problem and submit.

If Google declines the request, you can write to us at billing@wordclub.ai and we will personally ask Google to reconsider on your behalf — though the final decision remains Google's.

Cancel an auto-renewing subscription

  1. Open the Play Store app → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptionsSubscriptions.
  2. Tap Crossword ClubCancel subscription.

4. Web purchases (Stripe)

For subscriptions purchased directly on web.wordclub.ai we charge through Stripe and handle refunds ourselves.

14-day refund window for new subscriptions

If you bought a new Crossword Club subscription on the web and decide within 14 days that it is not for you, write to billing@wordclub.ai with the email address on the account and we will refund the full amount in the original payment currency. No explanation required. This window matches EU and UK consumer-rights law and we extend it to everyone.

Refunds after 14 days

Outside the 14-day window we still issue refunds on a case-by-case basis. Reasons we routinely refund:

Email billing@wordclub.ai with the charge date, last four digits of the card, and a short description. We aim to reply within two business days.

Cancel a web subscription

Sign in at web.wordclub.aiAccountSubscriptionCancel. You can also email us at billing@wordclub.ai from the address on the account and we will cancel for you. Cancellation stops future renewals; your access continues until the end of the current paid period.

5. Free trials

If we offer a free trial, the trial converts to a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial period unless cancelled. To avoid being charged:

If you forget and are charged for the first paid period within 48 hours of the trial ending, write to billing@wordclub.ai for App Store / Google Play purchases (we will assist with the platform) or we will refund web purchases directly.

6. Statutory consumer rights (EU, UK, and similar)

Nothing on this page limits any non-waivable statutory right you have under your local consumer-protection law. In the European Union and the United Kingdom this includes the right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of purchase — the right we already extend to every web customer under Section 4 above. For App Store and Google Play purchases the statutory right is exercised through Apple or Google as the merchant of record.

7. Refund processing time

8. Chargebacks

If you do not recognise a charge from Crossword Club, please write to us first — almost every "unknown charge" turns out to be a subscription a household member set up, and we can identify and refund it faster than your bank can dispute it. Filing a chargeback before contacting us means Stripe (or Apple / Google) freezes the transaction for weeks and locks us out of the account while the bank investigates; an email to billing@wordclub.ai with the charge date is usually resolved within one business day.

9. Contact

Billing and refund questions: billing@wordclub.ai.
